How to Prepare for an Auto Accident??

Although preparing for an auto accident may seem counter-intuitive, the best way to ensure a succesful recovery from an accident or other unanticipated tragedy is to prepare for it as if it will happen rather than assuming it probably won't happen.  And while no amount of preparation can make an auto accident a pleasant experience, the following steps will certainly help to minimize the negative, long-term consequences of the accident as much as possible:

  • Obtain a good auto insurance policy with full coverage and significantly more than minimum limits (including for uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage).  Remember, the purpose of purchasing automobile insurance is to protect yourself and your family.  Don't rely on others to have enough insurance to cover your damages in the event of an accident.

  • Make sure to keep your insurance policy current and only allow drivers covered under your policy to drive your vehicles.

  • Make sure all drivers covered under your policy are adequately trained and responsible enough to drive safely, and make sure to stay current with routine maitenance for your vehicles.

  • Secure health insurance so that you can seek emergency medical treatment following your accident without worrying about how those expenses will be covered.
